7th-8th Civics/Geography

Description:  In the fall semester, students will begin with civics, learning about America’s Founding Documents, our Founding Fathers, the branches of the government, voting, and elections by use of our textbook, projects, and games.  In the spring semester, students will switch to world geography, learning about our atlas, Virginia, the United States, and TRAVELING the 7 continents (passports included) studying the physical geography and the culture, while sampling food from each continent.  The year ends with an invitation for all families to join us for an International Dinner.  There will be a minimum of one field trip during the school year.

High School Geography

 Description:  This high school year-long course will approach the geography of the 7 continents by learning basic atlas skills and vocabulary, and then delving deeper into how the physical geography of the continents plays a vital role in shaping history, economics, cultures, politics, and current events.  Students will participate in classroom discussions, projects, games, food, and tests, in the hope that each student will grow to appreciate this beautiful world that God has created for us.

HIGH SCHOOL CIVICS/PERSONAL FINANCE

 Description:  Students will be introduced to the rights and responsibilities of being a citizen of the United States.  Through on-line reading, handouts, and games, we will discuss America’s founding, the Articles of Confederation, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, the 3 branches of government, and much more.  All tests will be taken at home.  There will be a minimum of 1 field trip.
In January, students will sit back and watch Dave Ramsey’s videos on Foundations in Personal Finance (popcorn included).  Along with the course workbook, students will learn the importance of never going into debt, how to budget, how to save, how to become a millionaire, and much more.
