7-12 Math Classes
2020-21

**New Once a Month Class**
6th-7th Grade Math Reinforcement and Games
Teacher:  Tracy Francis
Description:
At CCA, we want students to know that math doesn't need to be hard and can even be FUN!  This class will reinforce topics generally covered for an advanced 6th grade or average 7th grade math student.  We will focus on activities and games while seeing how math is used in daily life.  Parents will be able to message ahead of time with topics students are having difficulty with.  A small portion of the class will be open questions from whatever students are working on in an effort to help with tough topics being covered at home.
Textbook:
Students will just bring whatever math book they are using at home to be able to ask questions.   A great additional class for those students in the Saxon 7/6 class.
Copy Fee:
$25 per student per year
Tuition:
$125 per year/$12.50 per month

Saxon 7/6
Teacher:  Stephanie York
Description:  Don't let math intimidate you!  It really is as easy as Pi! On a more serious note, it has been said that the only way to learn math is to do math which is what students will do through this spiral approach to math. Students will practice concepts learned and build on that to learn new math skills.  We will learn about the order of operations, number line, decimal place value, percents, fractions, and even pre-algebra concepts like functions, coordinate planes, integers and exponential expressions.  Mastering these skills can be fun and attainable.  Concepts presented will be reinforced through classwork, practice, games, and even some hands-on activities.
*This course is intended for the 7th grade average level math student or the 6th grade advanced student.   Students will be asked to take a placement test to help ensure their readiness and subsequent success in this course.

Textbooks required: Saxon Math 7/6 Student Text (4th Edition) AND Tests/Worksheets Book
Copy Fee:  $10
Tuition: $495 per year/$49.50 per month

Pre-Algebra
Teacher: Denise Barisano
Description: This is a full pre-algebra course, meeting twice a week, preparing students for Algebra I.  Students will constantly review old and new concepts, guaranteeing mastery of the concepts.  Homework will be graded for effort and upon checking homework problems during class, all missed problems will be worked on the board.  Math games and projects will be incorporated into class when appropriate.
*Students who are new to math at CCA will be asked to take a placement test to ensure their readiness and subsequent success in this course.
Text:  Saxon Algebra ½, 3rd Edition can be leased from CCA
Copy Fee: $5 per student per year
Tuition: $495.00 per year/$49.50 per month

Algebra I
Teacher: Tracy Francis
Description:  This twice a week class covers basic Algebra I including integers, real numbers, the language of algebra, solving linear and quadratic equations and inequalities, graphing, solving systems of equations, operations with polynomials and radicals, factoring polynomials, and solving rational equations.  Students will develop thinking processes and problem-solving abilities that are essential to success in future math courses and in everyday life.   Students will be given a time to present questions from the homework which they have completed and corrected at home. They will also receive the teacher's cell number to text questions throughout the week to help save time in class.  The class will include presentation of the material including step-by-step notes to help the students remember the process at home.   The goal of the teacher is for students to truly understand the concepts and see that math can be fun!  **Please note that this class will be using the 2nd Edition of the BJU Algebra 1 book.  After using the 3rd edition for two years, the teacher has found that the students are more successful when using the 2nd edition.
*Students who are new to math at CCA will be asked to take a placement test to ensure their readiness and subsequent success in this course.

Geometry
``O King, for traveling over the country there are royal roads and roads for common citizens; but in geometry there is one road for all." –quotation attributed to Menaechmus, tutor of Alexander the Great
 Teacher: Katie Learned
Description:  The ancient classic, founded upon the works of Euclid of Alexandria. We address the wiles of geometric shapes, the importance of classification for ease of discussion, and the necessity of logical thought. Through practice and the judicial application of lateral thinking exercises, your student will join the ranks of scholars throughout the ages who have grappled with the beautiful truths explored in this branch of mathematics.
